Religious education programs at St. Leo’s are designed for both children and adults.
Our programs depend on the generous commitment of stewards (volunteers) who are willing to share their faith with others. The average commitment from catechists and classroom aides is about two hours per week; one hour of preparation and one hour with the children. Catechists are also expected to seek certification to teach in the Diocese of Rochester by attending at least one catechist training class a year. The Diocese of Rochester also requires that all teachers and stewards take the two hour training entitled Creating a Safe Environment.
The home is the primary place of faith formation. Religious Education classes are supplemental to home life and Sunday Mass! Families who participate in our programs should be supportive members of the parish and examples of faith to their children. Parents are encouraged to take advantage of the many opportunities throughout the year for adult faith formation as well.
Children’s programs enable the community, and particularly its parents, to live out the mission of passing the Gospel message of Jesus and our Catholic faith to a new generation of believers. Through caring, activities, witness and instruction, young people are guided toward a mature commitment to their baptismal promises to reject sin, profess their faith in the Blessed Trinity and follow the footsteps of Christ. The whole life of the parish serves as fertile soil so that the seeds of faith planted by home life can grow!
Our program for children & youth encompasses instruction for those in grades pre-K/K through eighth grade, youth ministry for those in high school, adult faith enrichment and preparation for the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist and Reconciliation.
