| CHRISTIAN MUSIC REVIEWS- I recently had the opportunity to review a number of NEW Christian Music CD's for St Leo's Church. I have to say I am really amazed at the diversity and trends in Christian music today. A few years ago most Christian music seemed like it all came out of the same mold. You only needed to listen to a Christian radio station for about 10 seconds to know you were listening to one. Now there are so many options out there, as the "Christian" genre has added numerous subcategories, including Rock, Hard Rock, Punk/Grunge, Country, and more. So if you have a favorite type of secular music, chances are there are some Christian bands that have a real similar sound. (I do have a list of comparative artists if you'd like, just drop me an e-mail and let me know.) But here's what I found with the CDs I've listened to recently: | |

The music on this CD is pretty mellow pop stuff, and while it's nice, it almost seems to blend 1 song into the next. You could walk away for a minute or two and not be sure if it's the same song or not. Don't get me wrong, there are some real good songs and great messages, but I think it misses an overall theme that ties the songs together. Probably worth a listen, but it won't be one of my "must-have's" for CCM listeners. |

MILES One Life To Love |
Before I started listening to mostly Christian music, I was mainly a country fan (the newer stuff, like Rascall Flatts, Keith Urban and such.) Maybe that's one of the reasons I like this band, some of their songs remind me of Rascall Flatts, especially "One Life To Love." Most of the music has a distinct country flavor, but I wouldn't necessarily label them as "country-Christian." A few of the songs have some lyrics that are a bit monotonous or cheesy, but there are a few good strong songs on the CD as well. Overall I liked this CD a lot and will probably listen to it pretty often. |
| WORTH DYING FOR Revolution |
This band is either trying to be diverse in its sound, or doesn't seem to know how they want to be classified. There are different vocalists and that might account for the variety in sound. At times there is an angst and almost emo edge (male vocals), and others seem all frilly and peaceful (female vocals) and it's almost hard to reckon the 2 together as the same band. I can appreciate a hard rock band that plays a "power-ballad," but this is different. A couple of songs were good, but on the whole, the CD seemed a bit too disjointed for me to really appreciate. |
