Faith Formation

Christian Formation at St. Leo the Great Church
Welcome to St. Leo the Great Church! We thank God for the work He is doing in all of us, drawing us closer to Himself in faith and love. Through formation and education we wish to support you in your efforts to cooperate with His wonderful grace that is bringing His salvation, healing and growth in your life and the lives of those dearest to you.

Where does God first work in our lives? The home! The home is the primary place of faith formation! Religious Education classes are supplemental to home life and Sunday Mass! Families who participate in our programs are encouraged to be supportive members of the parish and examples of faith to their children. Parents are urged to take advantage of the many opportunities throughout the year for adult faith formation as well.

Religious education programs at St. Leo’s are designed for both children and adults. Our programs depend on the generous commitment of stewards (volunteers) who are willing to share their faith with others. We are grateful for the time and care that these catechists provide for our parish children and ask that you keep them in prayer. The Diocese of Rochester also requires that all teachers and stewards take the two hour training entitled Creating a Safe Environment. If you have an interest in becoming a catechist for our Family Faith Sessions, Sacramental Preparation, Youth Ministry or Summer Intensive Program please contact Danielle Hubbel.

Children’s programs enable the community, and particularly its parents, to live out the mission of passing the Gospel message of Jesus Christ to a new generation of believers. Through caring, activities, witness and instruction, young people are guided toward a mature living out of their baptismal promises to reject sin, profess their faith in the Blessed Trinity and follow the footsteps of Christ. The whole life of the parish serves as fertile soil so that the seeds of faith planted by home life can grow!

Our programs for children and youth include Family Song and Reading Time (ages 1-3), instruction using the Faith and Life Series for those in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade, Youth Ministry for grades seven through nine, Life Teen Youth Ministry for those in high school, adult faith enrichment, Young Adult Ministry, and preparation for the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Eucharist and Reconciliation.
